Hilmy P. Soepadmo is a 2017 Fine Art Painting graduate from the Institute Technology of Bandung, Indonesia. Working with varied mediums from painting, prints, to perspex he is working into deconstructing consumerist culture by identifying visual stimulants that drive people’s behavior to consume. This practice is informed by his early experience as a graphic designer and in the past two years as the creative director in his experimental design studio, Copyright/Reserved, where they develop marketing communication and strategies for brands. Hilmy’s artistic practice juxtaposes the elitism of art as luxury goods, by exposing factual labels that are printed and presented on a material associated with ready-made and fabricated mediums, such as perspex. The works are packaged to bring awareness of individuals buying values and habits.
